Physical Constraints on Global Social-Ecological Energy System

نویسندگان

چکیده

Energy is the main driver of human Social-Ecological System (SES) dynamics. Collective energy properties SES can be described applying principles statistical mechanics: (i) consumption repartition; (ii) efficiency; (iii) performance, as efficient power, in relation to least-action principle. International Agency data are analyzed through lens such principles. Declining physical efficiency and growth power losses emerge from our analysis. Losses mainly depend on intermediate system outputs non-energy final output. performance at Country level also depends consumption. Better worse performing Countries identified accordingly. Five policy-relevant areas introduced this paper: Improve Decouple economic environmental degradation; Focus high value added labor-intensive sectors; Rationalize inefficient fossil fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption; Upgrade technological capabilities. Coherently with findings, policies should support following actions: (1) redefine sectoral distribution shares; (2) Country-level if needed; (3) Reduce output; (4) resources supply improve eco-efficiency together performance.

Ecological Restoration, Global Challenges, Social Aspects and Environmental Benefits

This book consists of 14 chapters covering important aspects in regards to various terrestrial ecosystems, wetlands, river systems, mine site rehabilitation, marsh ecology and heavy metals pollution. Also aims to fill some of the information gaps in ecological restoration, particularly in under-researched ecosystems around the world. Restoration ecology emerged as a separate field in ecology in...

Ecological Constraints on Mating Tactics

Mating tactics do not exist in a vacuum. Rather, they develop within specific environmental contexts. Such contextual influences can be conceptualized as a series of concentric circles around the individual, as in Bronfenbrenner’s (1979) ecological model of behavioral development, that are hierarchically nested within each other like a set of Russian dolls. Bronfenbrenner placed behavioral deve...

Ecological Mechanics : a Physical Geometry for Intentional Constraints

A proposal is made for a new discipline, ecological mechanics. lbis version of mechanics is complementary but not reducible to classical relativity. and quantum mechanics. Where traditional mechanics attempt causal analyses for all motions. ecological mechanics explicitly addresses the motions of living systems that exhibit goal-directedness. The shortcomings of the physical geometries underlyi...

Physical and social contextual influences on children's leisure-time physical activity: an ecological momentary assessment study.

BACKGROUND This study used real-time electronic surveys delivered through mobile phones, known as Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA), to determine whether level and experience of leisure-time physical activity differ across children's physical and social contexts. METHODS Children (N = 121; ages 9 to 13 years; 52% male, 32% Hispanic/Latino) participated in 4 days (Fri.-Mon.) of EMA during ...

Correlation between Social Capital and COVID-19 Indices: A Global Level Ecological Study

Background: Given that COVID-19 continues to spread worldwide, has become a public health priority. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between the social capital and the epidemiological indicators of COVID-19.  Methods: This survey is an ecological study, so all studied variables are aggregate variables.‌ To collect the variables in the study, a data set was provided, which includ...
